I just saw data from the National Association of REALTORS own study of 8303 members. Now granted, that’s about an 8% sample pool (1.1 million members), but it seems to raise a pertinent question for anyone who is considering hiring someone to represent their interest: how desperate is this person for a paycheck?
Here is the article from today’s Inman News.
This is the single paragraph that stood out to me:
Annual business expenses for the typical Realtor fell 22.1 percent in 2010 to $4,270. At least partially due to this decline, the typical Realtor’s net income rose to a median $24,600 last year, up 5.1 percent from 2009.
For sake of reference, the 2011 United States Poverty Level for a family of four is $22,350.

Dang…and I’m in real estate school!! Time to drop out.
Barry: It’s only a problem if you want to be average…!
I know have been doing better than that. It makes you wonder why some people stay in the business.
